Roger Karlsson

Consultant at Nanoxis Consulting AB

Background

I have always been interested in chemistry and research, probably driven by curiosity and a desire to understand how things work. I studied chemistry at the University of Gothenburg and chose to focus on analytical chemistry, biochemistry and organic chemistry. My project work was in the field of bioanalytical chemistry and after obtaining my Master degree I continued my Ph.D. studies in the same field. After my Ph.D. studies I have co-founded a biotech company specialized in research on membrane proteins. I have also worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of chemistry and molecular biology, University of Gothenburg. During this time, I developed an interest for microbial lipidomics and proteomics using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. My goal is to use my broad knowledge of chemistry and research experience to continue to work with membrane proteins and proteomics, including proteomic research on benign microbes involved in cycling nutrients in the environment as well as probiotic bacteria in functional foods, but also pathogen bacteria causing disease in humans.
